4,900 taxpayers zero more than Erna

– I don’t see there is any zero taxpayer, Støre told TV 2 on Monday about his own tax scheme.

But the figures that the Finance Ministry has calculated for TV 2 show a completely different truth.

The Labor Party’s tax plan will provide 4,900 zero taxpayers more than what the government’s state budget will provide for 2021. This means that fewer Norwegians will have to pay taxes under Jonas Gahr Støre than Erna Solberg.

SV: Work is hostage

– He has no goals. This shows the consequences of the Labor Party being held hostage to right-wing fiscal policy. This means that we are not going to fight the growing differences in Norway and that we cannot afford major welfare reforms. It’s serious for a left-wing party, SV’s fiscal policy spokesperson Kari Elisabeth Kaski tells TV 2.

The Labor Party wants to increase the entry point for when it has to pay wealth tax.

Today, everyone with a fortune of 1.5 million must pay the estate tax. The Labor Party will increase this next year up to NOK 200,000 to NOK 1.7 million. How much they will increase if they win the elections, they will not respond.

This increase means that 4,900 people with wealth will no longer pay taxes on wealth or income. The APS tax regime will provide Norway with almost 5,000 new ones.

As TV 2 was able to report in October, the Labor Party also plans to increase the lower deduction even further, to NOK 2 million. Støre says he doesn’t want to quantify how high the point of impact can be.

– No, we have not established such a limit. But we do this from year to year, now it goes from a year and a half to 1.7 and it is a good move for some who today pay wealth tax that they do not have to pay later. They are in the lower groups, says Støre.

Figures from the Ministry of Finance show that if the Labor Party raises the deduction below 2 million, then the number of zero taxpayers will skyrocket:

Up to 11,049 people will end up being zero taxpayers.

Støre: – I have not counted on that

On Thursday, Støre answers TV 2’s question about how many zero taxpayers there will be:

– As far as I know, we have not calculated that there will be no zero taxpayers with this scheme.

– Will there be more zero taxpayers when the lower deduction increases?

– I have no figures on that, says the Labor leader.

Faced with the figures from TV 2, says Støre:

– What I think is that if the wealth tax that makes the very rich end up paying zero in taxes is abolished, it is tremendously unfair. What we do with the bottom of the bottom deduction are many people with ordinary fortunes. We think it’s fair.

– So is it okay for them to become zero taxpayers?

– So it’s a fair move, says the Labor leader.

– Zero taxpayers?

– Then it is fair that they pay less, yes, says Støre.

– But earlier this fall, he slammed the Conservatives and the Green Party for going to the polls to increase the lower deduction and give 24,000 taxpayers zero more. Why is it now suddenly okay when the Labor Party does it?

– We believe that it is reasonable that those who pay wealth tax in the lower parts have a higher lower deduction. This means that some people who have regular savings do not have to pay wealth tax.

– But why is it okay when the Labor Party does it, but not when the Conservatives and the Liberal Party do it?

– We believe that this is a reasonable scheme adapted for 2021. Right and within the fact that it is a redistributive tax scheme.

– But if the conservatives do the same, isn’t that good?

– We believe this is a good plan for 2021 and it is fair. Those with the highest fortunes must pay more in estate taxes, Støre says.
