Later on Saturday, the presidency will meet to discuss more infection control measures in the city. In recent days, the trend towards infection has been increasing in Trondheim. On Christmas Eve, 19 people received a confirmed infection, but then the test stations closed at 3:30 p.m., so the actual number was probably higher. On Christmas Eve, a new record of infection for one day was set in Trondheim, when 46 people were confirmed to be infected.
Mild symptoms
37 of those infected have a known close contact, while five people have an unknown source of infection. Two infected people have not answered the phone of the municipality’s infection monitoring team. Among those infected in Trondheim on Christmas Day, there were also several children.
– A person has moderate symptoms, but is not hospitalized. The rest have mild symptoms. All children are in good general condition with few symptoms, says communications manager Harry Tiller in Trondheim Township.
The municipality claims that the Tempe nursing home pavilion on the ground floor is affected and all residents have been quarantined for six days. Therefore, the nursing home is closed to visitors until further notice.
In addition, the fourth grade of Kattem school is affected and is in quarantine until January 1.
The municipality also asks everyone who visited the city’s Christmas market until December 17 to be more aware of their own symptoms and to examine themselves even for vague symptoms, as they may have been in contact with the infection.
47 cases in nightclubs
In connection with the investigation of the infection situation in Trondheim, the municipal administration states that 47 cases of infection have been identified in restaurants and nightclubs during the last month. A dozen taxi drivers have also been infected and, as mentioned above, a party atmosphere has been revealed in the city where those involved have been to various parties during one night.
On Saturday, the municipality of Trondheim claims that traces of infection have found the source of infection for 85 percent of those infected on Christmas Eve, while 15 percent are unknown. These probably date back to the aforementioned party atmosphere in the city, about which it is still difficult to get enough information, the municipality writes in a press release.
– Pressing
– The infection monitoring team in Trondheim is under great pressure. We managed to quarantine people, but we couldn’t track everything, says director of health and wellness Helge Garåsen. He adds that the municipality still receives anonymous advice on parties at Christmas.
The high number of infections has led many people to request to be tested, resulting in a waiting time of up to five days at Leangen test stations and in the city center.
The presidency will meet again on the second day of Christmas at 1:00 p.m., and you can follow the meeting through this link.
Trondheim politicians will then adopt new local regulations, which in that case can go into effect from night until December 27 and will apply until January 9.
Various measures are proposed
In consultation with the National Institute of Public Health, the municipal administration recommends introducing various measures to prevent further spread of the infection in the city. Therefore, this is the proposal that the presidency can approve:
1. Social contacts in addition to one’s own family and contacts in work situations will be limited to 10 per week.
2. In all restaurants, both restaurants and bars, there must be at least two meters of distance between all tables.
3. All restaurants, both restaurants and bars, must register all visitors upon arrival with their name and phone number.
4. All taxis must register all customers on each trip with their name and phone number.
5. All unattended gyms must be closed.
6. Group training is not allowed.
