– We realized that an employee of the anesthesia department tested positive for corona today, and after that everything happened very quickly, says the communications director of St. Olav Hospital, Marit Kvikne.
The employee has been in contact with both patients and, of course, colleagues. A total of 18 people are now in quarantine. Two are patients, one is a family member, and fifteen are colleagues.
– We haven’t had anyone infected in this department before. But we have good routines for infection detection. Those affected are cared for. This especially applies to those who are patient, Kvikne says.
The hospital does not want to reveal which occupational group the infected person belongs to.
THEY ARE TESTING FOR SYMPTOMS: Two of those in quarantine are patients at the hospital. They are being cared for and will have a corona test in case of symptoms of the disease, the hospital says.

Scrapes are made
The hospital issued an anticipated press release stating that the infection had been detected. This afternoon, St. Olavs emphasizes that they believe the operation will go as planned in the coming days.
– From what we can see, this has no significant operational consequences. Some planned operations may need to take place at another time, but it’s too early to tell. Now we have to map the total resources, to see the opportunities we have to reassign staff in the clinics that are affected, says the director of St. Olav, Runa Heimstad in a press release.
If it turns out that some patients get a new appointment because of this, they will be notified by the hospital.

– Create challenges for the hospital when we are more quarantined. I would like to congratulate the staff who responded quickly and correctly and that all guidelines were followed. This has helped us to take control of the situation in a short time and therefore limit the consequences, says the executive director of St. Olav, Grethe Aasved, to the media.
The 18 who are in quarantine, after the procedures, will be screened for corona if they show symptoms, Kvikne says.
