North Carolina Coronavirus Update July 27: North Carolina reports 1,785 deaths and 1,170 hospitalizations for COVID-19

HISTORY MONDAY MORNING

State health officials reported more than 1,600 new cases of COVID-19 on Sunday with a positive test rate of 9 percent. Seven more deaths were reported Sunday, bringing the North Carolina coronavirus death count to 1,785. There are currently 1,170 people hospitalized. The latest figures are expected to be released around noon on Monday.

President Donald Trump is expected to visit the FUJIFILM Diosynth Biotechnologies Innovation Center in Morrisville on Monday afternoon. Trump’s visit is his public event in North Carolina since the eve of the March 3 presidential primaries.

Another opportunity for students to enroll in the Wake County Virtual Academy begins Monday. Parents can enroll their children in a virtual academy Monday through Wednesday. Students in Hoke County can enroll in the Virtual Academy until 6 pm Monday. Franklin County Schools will have an emergency meeting at 5:30 pm. The Halifax County Schools leadership will recommend that students learn remotely during the first nine weeks.

North Carolina health officials are reporting 1,621 more cases of COVID-19, bringing the total to 112,713.

With 85 percent of hospitals reporting, 1,170 North Carolina COVID-19 cases are currently being hospitalized. That is until two on Saturday.

Seven more people have died from the virus, bringing the total to 1,785 across the state.

The positive percentage rate for testing is currently 9%. It has fluctuated between 8 and 10 percent in recent weeks.

Statewide, 551 ICU beds and 6,077 hospital beds are empty.
