No Man’s SkyThe new Desolation update is here, and it’s packed with more creepy content than ever before in the game. The update offers players new spaces to explore by adding abandoned freighters throughout the space, each with their own unique story of what happened to their crew.
The freighters themselves will be procedurally generated, meaning that no two freighter interiors will be the same. When players encounter these ships floating in the vastness of space, they will be able to board and begin exploring. Inside the creepy abandoned spaceship, players can encounter any number of dangers, such as a fake AI security system or a new type of biological enemy that has infested the ship. As players make their way through the dangers of each haunted ship, they will also find procedurally generated stories that can be uncovered through the Captain’s Records, Personal Items, and Ship Records.
But while danger and intrigue may be strong draws for these haunted spaceships, they’re not the only incentives the Desolation patch adds for players to check them out. Anyone who survives their excursion to an abandoned freighter will be able to pick up parts of the ship to add to their own freighter. These salvaged parts can add new and unique technologies to player freighters.
Speaking of unique freighters, the Desolation patch also adds a new customization menu to user freighters that will allow players to fully equip them with custom color schemes. This customization can be done from the onboard freighter at your Upgrade Control terminal.
As for non-loading updates, this patch includes some tweaks to the game’s combat system to make it faster and more satisfying. The Desolation patch also brings a few new types of multiplayer missions, including one that allows you and your party to explore exotic planets, and one that allows them to “help lost souls whose spaceships have had an unfortunate fate,” according to the developer.
