Nishikant Kamat dies at 50, Riteish Deshmukh shares, “I will miss you my friend”


Bollywood filmmaker Nishikant Kamat died today in a city hospital in Hyderabad. The 50-year-old filmmaker was diagnosed with Chronic Liver Disease and other secondary infections. Riteish Deshmukh confirmed the same on Twitter and shared, “I will miss you my friend. #NishikantKamat Rest In Peace.” Earlier, Riteish had shared that the filmmaker had fought for his life and had prayed for his recovery. Nishikant Kamat was known for directing Bollywood films such as the Ajay Devgn and Tabu star ‘Drishyam’, and Irrfan Khan’s ‘Madaari’. He has also worked with John Abraham in two films, ‘Force’ and ‘Rocky Handsome’.

Nishikant Kamat was also a very popular director of Marathi films. He had called up the shots for hits such as Riteish Deshmukh star ‘Lai Bhaari’ and also Swwapnil Joshi’s ‘Fugay’. A close friend of Nishikant’s Sharad Kelkar had previously told ETimes, “Nishikant was one of those friends who gave me the opportunity to work in ‘Lai Bhaari’. Rather than director, he was a very good friend of mine. We know each other from last 13 to 14. He has a very special place in my life. ”

Earlier, the hospital had shared in a statement, “Mr Nishikant Kamat (50 years old, male) was taken to AIG hospitals, Gachibowli, Hyderabad on July 31 with jaundice and abdominal distension. He has been diagnosed with chronic liver disease and other secondary infections. He sits on the Intensive Care Unit for ongoing monitoring under the supervision of a multidisciplinary team of senior consultants consisting of gastroenterologists, hepatologists, critical care and others. His condition is critical but stable. ”
