Nintendo is set to hold a “Management Briefing Session” in Tokyo next month, just three days after Mario’s 35th birthday.
The news comes from Astris Advisory Japan’s David Gibson, who reveals that Nintendo has shared details about the upcoming meeting with relevant industry insiders in Japan. According to Gibson, Nintendo has said that “no new products, services etc.” will be discussed during the session.
Unlike the company’s regular briefings, this session is unusual in that it seems to be a one-off. As noted by VGC, it is quite possible that it may be related to some form of internal restructuring or business-centric development.
However, the date of September 16th is has got sparked a renewed interest in a potential announcement of Mario’s anniversary. Earlier this year, it was reported that Nintendo is set to remaster “most of Super Mario’s 35-year-old back catalog” to celebrate the occasion. With Mario’s special date falling just before this meeting, some have begun to believe that the remasters – or perhaps another Mario-related product – cow be revealed around that time.
It would certainly make sense, even if it is pure speculation at this point. The announcement of Pikmin 3 Deluxe came just a day before Nintendo’s Q1 revenue report was released, allowing the company to include the game in the report itself, making its future release schedule a little more appealing to investors. Maybe we could see a similar deal here, with a big Mario reveal landing just in time for Nintendo’s special meeting?
We’ll keep a close eye on this story as the briefing session approaches and will make sure you update when something happens. Until then, and as always, let us keep our hopes and expectations in check!
