Nintendo 3DS ctions online functions will no longer be intact

Nintendo 3D has been discontinued, meaning the console is no longer generated. Because of this, fans of the device – or owners of many digital games that they haven’t downloaded – may be wondering what this means for the system’s online functionality, including the Playline Play and Ish op Store. According to Nintendo, however, there is no need to worry.

In a statement to Gamesindustry.biz, Nintendo has confirmed that 3DS functions online functions will remain the same for a long time. “Nintendo and the third-party games system will be available for the Nintendo 3DS family at the Nintendo Eshop, on Nintendo.com and at retail,” a Nintendo spokesperson told the site. “We currently have no plans to discontinue any of the existing online services for the Nintendo 3DS family of systems.”

The statement continues, assuring fans that there is nothing to worry about. “Play Online Play and Nintendo Ashop will continue to be available and in the near future it will be possible to access and re-download all previously purchased content.”

To date, 3 DSA has sold 75 million units. Some of the larger digital-only titles on the system include BXBoxBoy, Pushmo, Pocket Card Jockey and Crimson Shroud.

The 3DS recently received a new physical game, the Atoi Collection, which previously brought with it many digital-only releases, although it can only be purchased online. The last 3DS game to receive a huge retail physical release was Persona Q2: New Cinema Labyrinth.
