Nikon has announced the development of the Z9, its highest-end mirrorless camera ever, and the first of the Z-Mount line to describe the company as a flagship. The actual details are thin, but Nikon promises to deliver “the best in Nikon history and video performance” once it’s released.
From the released single image, the Z9 appears with a built-in vertical grip, similar to the distance between the current mirrorless Z7 and the D6 full-frame DSLR. Nikon says the Z9 uses a newly developed full-frame sensor and a new image processing engine, which supports 8K video, “as well as other video specifications that meet a variety of requirements and workflows.”
It’s about it for details yet, except that Nikon says the Z9 will be released in 2021. Nikon announces its highest camera development in this way, with a full launch a few months later. For example, the D6 was announced for development in September 2019, and was fully unveiled in February 2020.
