After spending 95 difficult days at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, the Broadway star died on July 5 of complications from the new coronavirus.
Nick Cordero’s legacy will live on a live recording of his individual show, Live your life, which will launch on September 17, which would have been the Broadway star’s 42nd birthday.
Cordero’s wife, Amanda Kloots, visited Instagram on Wednesday to share the news. “Nick would be absolutely delighted to hear this news. I have never seen my husband work so hard on something and be so nervous about playing,” Kloots wrote of the album, a live recording of Cordero’s show in April 2019 at Feinstein’s. New York City / 54 Beneath the Cabaret.
“I was so proud of him and I loved seeing him on stage these two nights. He created this show from scratch, he chose songs to tell a story … his story,” she continued. “There are some Broadway songs with fun guest stars, some pop, standards, a little bit of Latin, and of course the encore is ‘Live Your Life.'”
Tony winner Hadestown Producer Michael J. Moritz Jr. served as director and music director for the project, which Cordero intended to launch before hiring COVID-19 in March. He spent 95 difficult days at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, marked by frequent health setbacks, including the amputation of his right leg, reported by his wife on Instagram. He finally died on July 5.
Following the news of Cordero’s death, a legion of notable names in Hollywood, including Viola Davis, Josh Gad, and Zach Braff, among others, shared moving tributes to the actor through their social media channels.
Live your life will be released through Broadway Records. Presales for the album begin today. See the Kloots post here.
