Nick Cordero ‘probably’ will need a double lung transplant

Broadway actor Nick Cordero is still seriously ill after battling the coronavirus for three months and will likely need a double lung transplant, his wife said Thursday.

“We think that is very likely the possibility. A 99 percent chance that I would need it to live the kind of life I know my husband would want to live, ”former Radio City Rockette Amanda Kloots said on CBS This Morning.

“That is a long way off and a lot of things would have to be aligned for Nick to be a candidate for that.”

Kloots also revealed that she told Cordero that her right leg was amputated in April.

“I told him … and I told him that there are incredible prosthetics. And I told him that he had been talking to amputees … and that I was trying to encourage him, “he said.

Speaking to Gayle King, Kloots added that her husband was “stable” for now.

“Nick’s body is extremely weak,” he said. “The muscles have been atrophied, so he can’t move his body yet. … He can still open his eyes, and when he is alert and awake, he will answer orders looking up or down, yes or no questions. “

Kloots, who shares the 1-year-old son Elvis with Cordero, confessed that doctors told her more than once that her husband would not survive.

“I believe, Gayle, that God is the only person who will decide when and if my husband leaves. So I will never try to play that role … He is fighting. I see him every day. Nick’s doctor sees it. And while he is there and fighting, I will continue fighting with him. “

The dancer and coach admits that she is not always so positive and that she has had days of screaming and tears, but she is convinced that her husband will recover.

“I tell him, I say, ‘You’re going to get out of this hospital, honey. I think so, I know you can … Let’s dance again. You’re going to hug your son again, ‘”he said. “My phrase is: ‘Don’t get lost, focus.'”
