Nick Cannon apologized for the comments he made that were deemed anti-Semitic, and Fox released a statement saying he will continue as the presenter of “The Masked Singer.”
ViacomCBS fired the 39-year-old television personality earlier this week after comments he made on an episode of his podcast sparked outrage. Cannon spoke to rapper Professor Griff for an episode in which he claimed that there was truth to many conspiracy theories about the Jewish people.
After sharing a heated Facebook post demanding an apology from ViacomCBS and the rights to its “Wild ‘N Out” brand, Cannon turned to Twitter to issue a regretful apology for the effect his words may have had.
NICK CANNON WILL HOST HIS OWN CONVERSATION SHOW DURING THE DAY THAT STARTS IN 2020
“First of all, I express my sincere and sincere apologies to my Jewish sisters and brothers for the hurtful and divisive words that came out of my mouth during my interview with Richard Griffin,” he wrote. “They reinforced the worst stereotypes of a proud and magnificent people and I am ashamed of the uninformed and naive place where these words come from. The video of this interview has since been removed. “
Cannon added: “While the Jewish experience spans over 5,000 years and there is much that I have yet to learn, I have had at least a little history lesson in the past few days and to say that it is revealing would be a great understatement.”
Cannon concluded his statement by saying that he has consulted with religious and community leaders who have been educating him in the past few days since the controversy erupted and that he is committed to improving his understanding of the issue.
