Nick Bosa 1on1 vs. Trent Williams, DJ Jones Injury Update; Observations of 49ers Training Camp

Odds and Ends

The 49ers added depth to their roster Thursday. The 49ers signed wide receiver Jaron Brown, safety Johnathan Cyprien, defensive back Evan Foster and offensive lineman Hroniss Grasu. All four were on hand for the session.

– There are no updates on the status of Ben Garland yet. The head coach shared his perspective on the relatively thin center position:

“We had to mix a few guys in there,” Shanahan said. “Center has been like our recipients, we’ve lost three centers so far, starting with Weston Richburg and then Spencer Long retiring and then Ben Garland yesterday. So we had to move some guys there (and) a bunch of guys. Daniel Brunskill has done a bit of it. (He) goes in and tries his best, just like the other boys. We brought in a new man in Grasu today. Today was his first day. So if you lose three boys you you have to swap a few guys to figure it out. “

– DJ Jones left the practice with what looks like a shoulder injury. The nose suit came off the field at drillers with full team and threw his helmet in apparent disappointment. According to Shanahan, he is currently being evaluated. Details to come.

– Ronald Blair III was seen conditioning on the sidelines during Thursday’s session. The defensive lineman was placed on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list at the start of camp, while making his way back from suffering a torn ACL in week 10 last season.

– Arik Armstead made his return to the field after missing multiple practices in dealing with back pain. He participated in individual drills, however conditionally on the side at work in full team.

– Shanahan says Nickel Corner is K’Waun Williams of the Week. He expects to miss the next two weeks with a calf injury.

– According to Shanahan, Richburg (knee), Jullian Taylor (knee) and Richie James Jr. (pulse) likely to open the season on PUP. Players on the PUP list may not practice or play for the first six weeks of the season.

– There was a short break during the 1-on-1 drills of the offensive and defensive line. According to Shanahan, these small flare-ups are expected during physical practices around this time of year.

“I liked the energy today, and came off mostly from a day off. Sometimes guys sometimes tend to wake up a little after a few periods, but guys got ready to go. I thought it was probably our most physical day,” Shanahan said. . “(Scuffles are) typical of camp around this time. We’ll see it all when we get to the movie. But sometimes, scuffles are a little okay. They wake everyone up a little bit. But try to make sure no one throws punches or do everything they can to get them out of the game.
