Emmy-nominated actor Nicholas Braun, also known as Cousin Greg of Succession – He had a flash of inspiration in early May while he was quarantined at his friend’s guest house in Los Angeles, alone and wanting company: an ironic rocker, “Antibodies (Do You Have the)”, which opens on Wednesday along with the official video on Rolling Stone.
“I want a girl whose blood has things / I want a girl who is safe,” Braun sings on a soft guitar, advancing towards the explosive emo chorus: “Do you have the antibodies? / Do you want to be with me? / Do Do you have the Antibodies? / Because if you don’t / you better stay away! ”There is also a line on antibodies that equates to“ shorts. ”But note that this is not medically correct advice.
“My friends are a couple and they’ve been together for years, but I was back like saying, ‘Man, I wish I had someone right now to go through this,'” says Braun. Rolling Stone. “And then this girl and I were talking and we thought, ‘Maybe we should go meet up and go for a walk, wearing scarves.’ So I went on this quarantine date; it felt secret because I didn’t want my friends to know. And I guess the combination of paranoia and romance is what the song is about. ” Braun’s father, 81, also caught, and survived, the virus.
With a couple of letters in hand, Braun turned to his Instagram to interpret the songs of his fans in public. Hundreds of videos followed. “I thought, ‘This kind of amazing thing,'” he says. “So this A&R from Atlantic Records came up to me and said, ‘Hey, I know this song is kind of a joke, but I also think that bridge and your second verse are really catchy.’ I spoke to him and I said, ‘Does it make sense to do this song right now?’
With producer Colin Brittain (Papa Roach, Dashboard Confessional, 5 Seconds of Summer) in tow, Braun created a pop-punk version of the song, part of which will go toward Cope and Partners in Health. Braun then slapped an eyeliner to record the quirky video: “That struck me as the character. Like a punk boy. I really wanted it to have emo and a little bit of grunge with it. I’ve never used that phrase before … ‘grunge with it’. That’s good. “Artist Camilla Engstrom, also known as Braun’s walking date, stars in love interest.” In the video when we hugged, that was a very real thing for us in real life, “he says.” We were on date three and we thought, ‘Hey, is it okay to take off our scarves and hug today?’ “
Braun has been acting since the age of six, but has also been interested in music. “I started writing songs like six years ago,” he says. “I’ve only really hesitated to post something. He’s always in the back of my head, making music. I would love to play, I would love to go on tour. This is the first thing I’m officially posting, but I love this song. “
For those who are curious: Braun has been tested for both COVID-19 and antibodies, and the results were negative. So, in Braun’s own words: “You better stay away!”
