Patients from the National Health Service in England, who had been waiting more than a year for non-coronavirus treatment, acknowledged in an NHS report that it was the result of the UK’s response to the epidemic.
Figures released on Thursday show that the number of people waiting more than 52 weeks for treatment to begin in September was 139,545 – up from 1,305 in the same month last year.
Figures seen by Sky News also show that hospitals in England missed several cancer targets. The number of people admitted to English NHS hospitals for routine treatment – not related to COVID-19 – also fell by more than a quarter (27 percent) in September 2019.
The report states: “The number of reported attendances is significantly lower compared to the same month last year and may be the result of COVID-19 feedback.”

Hospital attendance also declined significantly for heart attack (27 percent), cardiac failure (38 percent) and lung cancer (43 percent).
Other reports have had a far-reaching effect on the taxpayer-funded health system, with nearly 50,000 children’s surgeries canceled, and the number of deaths awaiting a list of organ transplants nearly doubled.
Nigel Farage, leader of the Reform UK party, warned on Monday: “When you increase the total health costs of stopping surgery, preventing diagnosis, you can clear the National Health Service in the event of a big wave.
