The man who squatted on several possible new names for the NFL’s Washington franchise says he contacted the league to offer the brands for free … and received emails to prove it.
Martin McCaulay – also known as the “trademark pig” (as he calls himself) – was criticized by Washington fans when it became known that he obtained the trademarks for a bunch of possible replacement names … including the Monuments of Washington, Americans, Veterans, Federal Red-Tailed Hawks, and more.
Most people assumed they would try to cut the franchise for a big payday, but McCauley says that’s BS.
In fact, McCauley tells us that he contacted the NFL by email on July 4 and offered him his 10 brand names at no charge.
“My email was dated July 4, 2020 to the NFL trademark attorney and it said ‘free trademarks’, a list of all my trademarks that said ‘you can have them for free’ and they didn’t respond.”
“I didn’t know how to communicate with anyone. I’m on Twitter, in the NFL, in the NFL community. Take my trademarks, please! What do I have to do to get you to take these trademarks?”
