The Seattle Seahawks traded an arm and a leg for the safety of superstar Jamal Adams on Saturday, but they weren’t the only contenders seeking Adams’ services. ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler said the other two teams involved were the San Francisco 49ers and the Dallas Cowboys. I know the Niners made an offer early on, but I’m not sure how important an offer outside of a first-round pick is. I’ve seen a few other people on Twitter who said San Francisco offered the first round next year, plus some Day 3 picks, which seems correct.
Would you have traded for Jamal Adams if that meant giving up a first and fourth round pick for next year? That means San Francisco would only have a second round after trying its third and fifth round picks in the 2021 NFL Draft for Trent Williams. You give up a lot of draft capital, but you’re also not going to find a player who has talent in the NFL Draft. On the other hand, money and rookie contracts also play a role in these decisions.

I have seen many people looking down on Adams. There is no way to call Adams a great player. It will certainly make life for the 49ers more difficult when the two teams play. I still think the Jets were done with the best deal. We often overestimate non-QBs and New York got three good years from a first-round pick and flipped it over two first-round picks. From a business point of view, they won.
That doesn’t mean we have to act like Adams, it’s this lazy guy who won’t make plays. He will do it. Can you block? No. Run to the passerby? Yes, but not all down. The Adams deal feels like a situation where both can be true. Seattle got a great player, but gave up too much for him. Something tells me that Kyle Shanahan will stay away from No. 33 when he has coverage next year.
