As a position, the NFL fullback is dead.
Unless your name is Kyle Juskick. In that case, it’s a lucrative career path.
The San Francisco 49ers fullback agreed for an extension on Sunday. It is valued at 27 27 million over five years, according to ESPN’s Adam Schaefter. Of that, 10 million is guaranteed.
It’s not bad for someone whose condition has largely been phased out of the NFL for the better part of a decade – especially considering that he’s banked over 23 23 million in career earnings.
What’s so special about Jussick?
Juskick, of course, is no ordinary fullback. The 29-year-old has made the Pro Bowl in five of his eight seasons, keeping himself consistent with his field non-field versatility.
Yes, that’s right you can now become known as a Lord of the Rings. But it is also a threat to catch the ball. During his career he has caught 199 passes for 1,849 yards and 12 touchdowns.
When it is on the ground, it has to be accounted for in defense – especially in the red zone. Jimmy Garoppolo looked to Juskic to score San Francisco’s first touchdown in Super Bowl LIV.
But primarily it’s a key clue in Kyle Schnahan’s run game, a favorite with his head coach and general manager John Lynch, who appeared to be having a lot of fun teasing him before “Juice” Juskik’s extension happened.
I’m thirsty. Fans, do you want some “interest?”

After finishing No. 2 in the NFL in Doddham during the 2019 NFC Championship season, the 49ers trailed in the middle of the back during the injured 2020 season. If the 49ers are going to return as one of the best running teams in the league and for the Super Bowl argument, Juskick will play a key role in getting there.
Juzcic is clearly regarded as a value 49 member and a key member of his offensive philosophy. And even amid the scarcity of a league-wide pay cap, they are willing to pay it like a fullback.
