In general, it’s not good that someone can get out of your quarterback and throw an obstacle at the goal line. If there’s anyone who knows a lot, it’s a Seahawks fan.

But DK Metcalfe found the lining of the register at Russell Wilson’s expensive Red Zone interception while playing against the Cardinals on Sunday night. As Buda Baker picked up Wilson and sprinkled him in the open field with nothing but green grass in front of him, it felt like he was going to walk in a 99-yard pick-six. That was when Metcalfe saw an opportunity to show off his insane athleticsism.

Even after Baker’s remarkable head started to be both time-wise and position-wise, Metcalfe turned the jet on and helped the Cardinals hunt in the final zone, embarrassed by the safety. It’s made for an amazing highlight and one of the more amazing feats of athletics you’ll see on the football field this year.

Not surprisingly, Metcalfe dropped a lot of jaws and inspired plenty of tweets. It’s not every day that you turn a 6-foot-4, 230-pound receiver into “Bunt the F Hunt” mode and make the best defensive play of the year.

That, too, was hard not to find humor in the play.

And, of course, there were instant memes. Iconic highlight is not really an iconic highlight unless it immediately enters the culture.

Some also drew a link between Metcalf’s game and Ben Watson’s stoppage of Champ Bailey during the 2011 Patriots-Broncos game.

Not only was Metcalfe’s highlight absurd, it was also crucial for the scoreboard. INT The Cardinals were kept completely off the board, meaning Metcalfe’s Hustle and Wheels took at least six points off the board.
