NFL Insider Notes: Frustration Drives Bear’s QB Discovery, Plus Post Prescott Paid Cowboys for Waiting

The Chicago Bears remain on the prowl for quarterbacks. And don’t let the des depth of their frustration last even for a moment.

Frustration has been a scent in this NFL quarterback transaction since the beginning of the 2021 seasons, as evidenced by the resumption of contracts by Carson Wentz Trade and Jared Goff Trade and Ben Rothlisberger. Fear and frustration are running rampant right now because of the prevailing spirit within the Bears ’front office fees, as its criminal mismanagement in the quarterback situation has come out of a few easy ways.

Chicago needs major upgrades, and options are limited. League sources said the Bears were in fact very serious about Carson Wentz, and even had an internal discussion about Big Ben and would probably be the only landing place for him if he hadn’t agreed to a significant pay cut to live in Pittsburgh.

So what does this mean going forward?

Well, sources said they are ready to load the election boat on Texans – in an effort to upgrade to the most important position in all professional sports – for Rachel Wilson – for Deshaun Watson – and for Seashex. They are seriously over and, usually when job security is at the forefront, future elections like 2023 are not as valuable in real time. They don’t have the kind of young, cheap talent that some other trade suitors do, but you always pick the future top draft of the problem.

“There’s a real sense of panic in that building,” said an NFL executive. “Don’t underestimate how desperate they are.”

It doesn’t sound like Mitch Trubisky will be back there. The bears are looking to upgrade en masse. And there are many ways to do that. If the 49ers land someone like Sam Darnold off the jets – something seen as a very real possibility in league circles – then watching Jimmy Garoppolo is another name, meaning the Illinois homecoming makes sense for all parties (though they would have wanted) with the Patriots Have to argue, who drafted and developed Jimmy G.).

It won’t be easy, and the next QB won’t come cheap. But that won’t stop the bears from trying.

One should get out of Arizona and try Chandler Jones.

For the second year in a row his franchise took a bold step, shining on a Texans star, and giving it a beautiful look before ever playing a game there. A year ago it was Dandre Hopkins. Now, that’s JJ Watt.

All Jones has completed his contract – now entering his final year – and is producing the opposite of almost all NFL pass rushers. Jones is a model player and has adopted Phoenix like his second home, but you haven’t heard the Cardinals take care of him, and I highly doubt you will soon. And you won’t hear any complaints from him, but that doesn’t mean he won’t be able to see what’s going on around him.

Watt, who turned 32 this month, has not been able to stay healthy in Asons Tuo for a long time, and has not played a snap for Arizona, but is basically guaranteed to earn M28M from him over the next two years. Jones, who is just 31 years old, has one year left on the .5 15.5M deal.

I burn their phone lines. Wasn’t it a long time ago that the Cardinals traded for Jones. In this environment of bargaining, the free agency has a unique lineage with a limited number of pass-rush options and Jones will be the target if I need an edge. Jones suffered a pack injury at the end of the season in October – he has fully recovered – and the Cardinals unveiled former first-round pick Hessen Reddy in his absence. Reddick had a career season in the running year so moving Jones ’salary would make it possible to keep Reddick as a free agent.

I ask for sure.

Here’s what I know about Jones. Despite missing 11 games last year with injury, he is here where he ranks among all NFL players of 2017-20: only Aaron Donald (57.5) has more sacks (50), and Jones is still 10th in the batted pass and He is ninth in total quarterback hits. Between 2017-19, Jones ranked first with 49 sacks (second with Donald 44), 10th in quarterback pressure and second in quarterback hits.

It is a rare company for any player, let alone a player, his team has no one to go beyond this agreement. The Broncos have tried to wrap their hands back around von Miller. I know how the Cardinals feel about Pass Rusher coming into the injured season. Trade is all frenzy. Everyone has a price.

The cowboys were crushed in the postal deal

I read that the Cowboys won some part of this Dak Prescott extension. How trade-offs and compromises took place.

Really? how?

His quarterback crushed him. As his season wore on after his injury, and with the second franchise tag being fairly certain, $ 40M always remained his magical number at annual value. Got it. And that’s just the beginning.

The next money is amazing – the M 66M bonus. The length of the contract – just four years – is ideal, and if he stays in games like this, Jerry Jones will return to the bargaining table in a few years – with a cap explosion – to try to retain his QB but to run another franchise tag on him. Without being able to. Prescott now has a no-tag and no-trade clause after the deal was struck a year ago at a cost of M33M, as it does not include a no-tag clause.

Prescott and his camp were playing this skillfully, the dubious team of the building around him on the roster put forward his reason as the 2020 season quickly disintegrated, and the ducks crushed him. Good for her.

“I don’t get it at all,” said an NFL contract adviser from Cowboy’s point of view. “If you’re offering an APY and signing bonus and a guarantee and a tag, the Cowboys will have to sign it for at least five or six years. I don’t get it.”

Neither do I.

More internal notes

  • How did the Bengals not tag Carlson? There were already big issues with the defensive line, and yet they don’t tag him a year after giving a રી 17M subsidy to broken receiver AJ Green in a non-competitive year. And the top corner William Jackson also moves on in the market, but never comes back, and even though you had a corner there was a problem. And many teams see it as the best UFA corner out there. Yes. J Bur Burrow is only a two-year deal and the clock is ticking and with good luck the other team’s free agents are attracted to Cincinnati as if it were some favorite destination. The risk of losing their own best young talent, in a crucial position, comes as no surprise to me, but how it rolls there isn’t so unusual.
  • Urban Meyer, for all the wrong reasons, continues to turn heads in the NFL, in his very short term. No one I spoke to understood why they would put up a franchise tag to confront Robinson. He’s a great player but the multiple teams I spoke to were rated as 10M / year facing; Just tagged it on about M 15M. Fantastic. But Jacksonville already has a strange Rs.
  • If the Panthers can’t land Watson through a trade, they feel as aggressive as any team about going into the top three picks to land in one of the top three quarterbacks in this draft. No wonder.
