Drivers may also have changed. The images suggest that Oculus could use an input similar to the Touch hardware that comes with the Rift CV1, a good thing for veterans who believe the Quest and Rift S drivers were steps back.
This future Quest would also not have the velcro side straps from before. It is unclear how the mechanism works, but it could involve a spring system that saves you from having to adjust the setting. Nor does a triangular strap open to help keep the handset in place, supporting the conversation that the new Quest is considerably lighter.
There are still some unknowns. It is unclear what would drive the new Quest, although faster update speeds would dictate a newer platform like Qualcomm’s XR2. However, if these images are accurate, the new version of the Oculus stand-alone headphones might have some welcome updates, albeit with some trade-offs.
