Gavin Newsom of California refused to speak ill of ex-wife Kimberly Guilfoyle after she called on the state for his treatment of current drug and homelessness crises during her address to the Republican National Convention.
Newsom, a Democrat who was married to the former Fox News host from 2001 to 2006, took questions from reporters on Wednesday when asked, “I’m curious if you’re looking at the RNC, and if you have an answer. on your ex-wife who said in prime time … that California’s a land of twisted heroin needles in parks, riots in streets and blackouts in houses. ”
The governor of California acknowledged that his lack of response “you might want to leave”, but still refused to address his ex’s comments about his state’s state.
“Let me just extend appreciation for your efforts to get my answer and I respectfully respect the next question,” Newsom said before moving on to another reporter.
The former couple, named “the New Kennedys” in a Harper’s Bazaar release in 2004, remained friendly after their split despite their political differences.
In a 2018 Washington Post profile about Guilfoyle, she told the paper that her split was a friendly one and that the two were still talking.
Telling a recent phone call between the two, the surrogate of the Trump campaign, who at the time had started with Donald Trump Jr., “threatened playing” to bring her new friend to the Golden State to oppose him to campaign.
Then she put Trump Jr. on. and Newsom together on the phone, saying they were joking about having the same style.
Asked about her political differences with Newsom during her marriage, Guilfoyle claimed she had always been a Republican, but the two shared pro-business views.
During a joint interview with Charlie Rose in 2004, Newsom described Guilfoyle as modestly more conservative than he was.
Asked in 2019 about the relationship by BuzzFeed News, and specifically whether President Trump’s relationship from the past with his son’s girlfriend had ever grown up, Newsom drafted.
“We may have had a private moment on that conversation, which in itself just makes life interesting,” he said.
He goes on to say, “Life is interesting.”
Guilfoyle did not name Newsom during her RNC remarks in 2020 Monday night, but she did not shy away from discussing her home state.
‘If you want to see Biden-Harris’ socialist future for our country, just look at California. It is a place of enormous wealth, immeasurable innovation, and unlimited environment, and the Democrats turned it into a land of defunct heroin needles in parks, riots in streets, and blackouts in homes.
“In President Trump’s America, we are highlighting things. We do not dim them. We build things, we do not burn them down. We kneel in prayer and we stand in front of our flag, ”she said.
