New York (CBS New York) – A major winter storm is raging in our area on Wednesday and it is set to become the first major snowfall of its kind in New York City in several years.
The current forecast estimates 5-10 inches of snow in the larger Apple, with more north and west.

Storm timeline:
4 to 7 p.m.: It may start to snow a little in the first part of the afternoon, especially in the south and west, but it will develop mainly after 4 pm, there will be light to moderate snow and conditions will be mild.
7 to 11 p.m.: With a combination of heavy snow and blasting conditions, the snow at night becomes intense.

11 a.m. at 7 p.m.: This is the most severe duration of a hurricane, with a potential accumulation of 1-2 inches or more per hour and potential snowfall conditions along the coast from time to time. Occasional hurricanes are possible. Snowfall of a foot or more is expected in parts of north and west of New York City, including parts of New Jersey and Connecticut. As you move south and east, the totals will decrease as you approach the coast.

7 to 11 in the morning: Snow paper will begin to flow in the morning with the final snowfall in the early afternoon. There may still be some mix of south and east.
The cold will last for several days after a hurricane, so don’t expect a fast melting. Complex matters, whatever melts, are likely to be refreshed again.
