New trailer has convinced fans that a ‘Spin City’ star is the penguin, not Colin Farrell

The Batman director Matt Reeves recently gave fans of the DC Extended Universe a sneak peek at the upcoming movie during his DC Fandome panel. However, when fans got their first look at the footage, many were convinced that Colin Farrell did not play the Penguin. Instead, many believed a particular star of the sitcom of the 90s Spin City was playing the iconic villain.

Matt Reeves says ‘The Batman’ is a work in progress

Reeves acknowledged that she had made only 25 percent of the film before production closed in March due to the pandemic. Fortunately, he shared another teaser for the highly anticipated film. Reeves explained that there was no way he “could not show any part of the film”

As Deadline indicates, the trailer is very dark, and it gives fans their first look at Robert Pattinson as Bruce Wayne. The two-minute teaser has a ’70s tone’ like Todd Phillips’ Joker.

“It’s not a story of origin, but you meet him in the early days,” Reeves revealed. “Many of the other (cinema) stories showed that he had to control his fear and become Batman himself.”

In his film, Reeves says she ‘met’ in the middle of this criminological experiment. ‘ He added that viewers will see Batman “make mistakes.” Reeves explained that he did not have the effect he wanted. This is when the “murders begin to happen.”

In one scene of the trailer, Pattinson’s alliance leader Batman asks, “Hell the hell are you supposed to be?” He replies, “I am revenge.”

‘The Batman’ features a talented cast featuring iconic villains

In the teaser, Pattinson’s Batman is remarkably younger and different. Fans have already described his takeover of the superhero as “emo.” Jeffrey Wright takes on the role of James Gordon. There will also be many image-defining villains. Reeves says Paul Dano’s version of The Riddler is something fans have never seen before.

“He’s just coming up,” Reeves said. “Ditto for Andy Serikis’ Alfred and Colin Farrell’s Oswald Cobblepot aka The Penguin.”

He added that Selina “is not a Catwoman yet.” As fans know, that role will be played by Zoe Kravitz.

The one detail of the trailer that fans really have about social media is Farrell’s Penguin. The role has not been tackled on screen since 1992 Batman is coming back. Of course, fans could never forget Danny Devito’s dramatic take.

Farrell’s transformation is so shocking that the Horrible Bosses star is not recognizable. According to Too Fab, some fans did not like Farrell. The most popular reaction on Twitter was from fans who believed that Spin City star and legendary cabaret artist Richard Kind painted The Penguin.

Colin Farrell as The Penguin could be Richard Kind’s twins

There are only a few seconds when Farrell appears in the new trailer for The Batman. However, those handfuls of images imply the makeup artist tried to make Farrell look just like Kind. It’s really unusual.

It does make sense, though, because canon is clear about the Penguin’s backstory. Cobblepot becomes his villainous alter-ego because he has made his whole life fun for his appearance. Upon close-ups, it appears that Farrell’s Penguin has some severe scars, but how that happened is not clear.

It could be a birth defect or a childhood accident. There’s also a possibility that Reeves’ vision for The Penguin has a bit of a twist. Maybe he was once incredibly handsome like Farrell, but suffered an adult kind. This may cause it to change its appearance.

Fans will have to wait more than a year to find out the truth about Colin Farrell’s Penguin. The Batman is scheduled for theaters on October 1, 2021.
