The New Orleans Saints today announced the cancellation of the team’s four preseason games after discussions and resolutions between the NFL and the NFLPA. The cancellation of the preseason will allow the Saints organization additional preparation time and preparation of adequate safety protocols for the restart of the NFL season. The decisions made by the NFL and NFLPA came after careful and thoughtful consideration and are consistent with the Saints’ philosophy that the health and safety of our fans, players, and staff is the primary driving force.
The NFL has announced that it will not issue uniform guidelines regarding stadium capacity or a minimum or maximum number of fans; It will allow each team to make that determination, in accordance with local guidelines and restrictions and CDC recommendations. However, the NFL has ordered that if fans attend games this season, they should wear face covers.
The Saints remain in daily working contact with ASM Global officials along with local medical experts, our team at Ochsner Health System, the CDC, and state and local government officials regarding the revival of the Mercedes-Benz Superdome.
While many variations on safe stadium capacity continue to be discussed, the Saints continue to plan their 2020 regular season games at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome. Additionally, the Saints continue to encourage fans to stay on course with the necessary precautions recommended by health officials to stay safe in all facets of their daily lives.
In connection with the two preseason games canceled at home in 2020, New Orleans Saints season ticket holders will continue to have the opportunity to choose to receive a refund or apply payments as credit for next year’s season tickets. The Saints will follow with season ticket holders with more information on our regular season policies and available credit options as soon as they are finalized. However, in the meantime, we are canceling all resale and transfer transactions for the 2020 season.
Additionally, the team reminds fans that the 2020 Saints training camp will unfortunately be closed to fans.
