We’re talking about it The New Mutants so long as they are more like “The Old Mutants” at this point. The first trailer came back in 2017 and since, rumors and speculations about his release became so abundant that it truly felt like the film would never happen. Well, it happens. This weekend. And a new article on the development of the film reveals that, while many of the rumors were rumored, the basis for it was absolutely accurate.

In three years, fans have been waiting for release, the biggest rumor around The New Mutants was that much of the film was re-recorded. Then, several months ago, we found that this was not true. In fact, there were no reshoots at all. In an in-depth, must-read feature, however, over on Greed, It is reported that the studio largely tried to get the film changed for filming.

According to Vulture, author-director Josh Boone first released a version of The New Mutants that would be very John Hughes. Very Breakfast Club. However, the script he provided was not. It was rougher and scary then expected the studio. That, according to the piece, several new writers were brought in to do rewrites and offer suggestions, almost all of which were rejected or revised by Boone. This resulted in an almost intervention-type of meeting where Fox brought all those writers together to share their ideas with Boone, who stood his ground on his vision.

From there, Boone shot his vision on the film, which saw the studio and was not quite behind. In fact, one driver pushed the idea to remake the entire movie because the initial budget was so low compared to other X-Men movies, and re-shooting would still be relatively inexpensive for the franchise.

Then of course Disney bought Fox and the movie just sat in limbo for years. That timing made reshoots impossible, even if they wanted to, because all of them young the stars age significant. Eventually Boone got inhold the movie again, finish it off the way he wanted, and now –after multiple delays –it will finally hit the big screen.

We ask you to go to Greed to read more details about this crazy story, including a version of the script that Storm apparently had as a “sadistic prison.”

For better or worse, The New Mutants will be released this weekend.
