New Google Mortgage Information Search

Google announced that they will launch a mortgage information search product. The new service will be shown in mobile searches.

Search for Google Mortgage information for mobile devices

The new Google service is a collaboration with the Office of Consumer Financial Protection (CFPB). The CFPB is a government of the United States
organization that regulates consumer financial products and services.

The new mortgage search tool is available on mobile devices.

According to CFPB’s About Us page:

“We protect consumers from unfair, deceptive or abusive practices and take action against companies that break the law. We arm people
with the information, steps and tools they need to make smart financial decisions. “

Google has partnered with the US government to provide information intended to benefit consumers.

Four announcements about mortgage tools

In a mortgage search, I had to go through four ads before I was able to access Google’s new mortgage tools.

There are a total of four PPC ads that a user has to scroll to access Google’s new mortgage tool

The search results are below Google’s mortgage search tools. But you have to scroll past Google’s multiple mortgage-related features before you hit two search results that in my case came from the same domain.

Then followed by frequently asked questions that have no links to the originating website.

Did Google “borrow” content without attribution?

One of the frequently asked questions contains content that appears to have been obtained from BankRate.com. But there is no link to the source of the information or any other attribution.

BankRate may not be the original source of that content. But searching for a snippet of that phrase shows BankRate as the most likely source.

The content in the Google FAQ is exactly the same as the content on BankRate.com. But there is no Google link or attribution to BankRate.com.

The information is designed to channel consumers from every point in their mortgage research journey.

According to Google:
