A new Microsoft game console generally means a new Forza game, be it Motorsport or Horizon. The eighth installment in the Motorsport series was teased among many other new games during the Xbox Series X event, including an upgraded version of Forza Horizon 4 to make use of the console’s additional hardware power.
Details about the next Forza Motorsport game are sparse at the moment, mainly because it’s still in the initial development phase. It doesn’t have a release date yet, but it’s worth the wait given the awesome gameplay graphics of the ad preview. We can see a bunch of Apollo IE hypercars running around Laguna Seca in stunning 4K graphics and running smoothly at 60 frames per second.
A proper gameplay video would have been better, but we can at least take comfort in knowing that Turn 10 Studios will enhance their game once again to harness the power of the new Xbox Series X. The attention to detail is incredible and the game will be compatible plotting Rays for realistic shadows and reflections. Please note this is not a pre-rendered video as we expect the new Forza to look more or less as it does in the adjacent images.
In addition to seeing the Apollo Intense Emozione, the game’s brief teaser also shows Mazda’s BAC Mono and Daytona racer, with hundreds of additional cars and a variety of tracks likely planned. The game seems to just be called Forza Motorsport like the original from 2005 instead of Forza Motorsport 8, which seems strange enough, but it is what it is. Perhaps the developers of the video game consider the new title to be more of a reboot rather than a follow-up to Forza 7 released in late 2017.
With the game in development early, we wouldn’t hold our breath for a release later this year that coincides with the launch of the Xbox X Series. Expect a “very different and surprising experience,” according to Turn 10 creative director Chris Esaki, which may explain why the developer sees the game as more than just a follow-up to Forza 7.
