Ford is reportedly rapidly developing a truck version of the 2021 Ford Bronco take the Jeep gladiator, and is expected to debut in the next four years.

We know that Ford’s plans to reintroduce the Bronco as its own sub-brand would not stop with the Bronco and Bronco Sport crossovers alone. Reports indicate that Ford has already been planning a Raptor variant of the Bronco, as well as a new Bronco Sport-based compact pickup, potentially called “Maverick,” which will debut next year.

As exciting as those two rumors are, it looks like the long-awaited 3.0-liter turbocharged EcoBoost from the Bronco Raptor six-cylinder won’t be the largest engine you can get in the Bronco, if Automobile MagazineThe report of a V8 Bronco truck is true.

This is what Automobile claims:

However, a third stable Bronco companion is on the way: the Ford Bronco pickup. The good news is that it is coming. The bad news is that it will have to wait: the Bronco pickup probably won’t be due until mid-2024, as a 2025 model, according to our sources, though forces within the company are working to move the date forward, if possible.

[…]

Like the Bronco SUV, we expect the Bronco truck to offer the same seven-speed manual and 10-speed automatic options for the 2.3-liter, and the same 10-speed automatic setup for the 2.7-liter V-6. If the 5.0-liter V-8 hits the Bronco truck, we’d also expect to see the 10-speed automatic as the only option for it.

The report also states that, unlike the Bronco SUV, the pickup version would only be available in a four-door, double-cab configuration. You are also expected to get the same Bronco options and trims as the SUV, probably including the Sasquatch package.

The 2020 Jeep Gladiator is also available only in a four-door configuration, and comes with a V6 option and no V8. There’s a manual available, and it’s probably in the Bronco, too.

If Ford is really working on a Bronco pickup that is not just a missing unibody crossover then it will be the Gladiator’s only true competitor taking into account the experience of driving off-road without a roof with a new factory hand truck. However, poor Ranger has no chance.
