New footage shows Beirut explosion up-close and in slow motion

A new video shows the moment an explosion shook the port of Beirut – sending a fireworks explosion of “white hot glass” into the air before leveling dozens of buildings in a powerful wave of destruction.

The high-resolution recordings, which are also slower, offer the clearest view of the explosion in the Lebanese city yet.

‘I experienced this white-hot glass explode. I do not know when I jumped or the shock waves ignited me, and I found myself on the floor, “said Agoston Nemeth, who shot the recordings, told News Flare. ‘I noticed the shaking of glass and people screaming. I looked around and saw this enormous orange cloud above me. ”

Nemeth, a 42-year-old therapist, had just started a session at 6pm on Tuesday when he heard a loud thumping noise and examined on a terrace on the 13th floor, he told the outlet.

Nemeth saw smoke blowing from the harbor building and left his iPhone recording on the terrace, which was about half a mile from the explosion – then ran back inside.

That’s when a powerful explosion is shown ripening towards the camera, sending smoke into the sky and hitting nearby buildings. The camera falls to the ground and becomes dark.

“I noticed it was getting bigger all the time, some big flames were coming out and suddenly there was this, ‘boom.'” Nemeth said. ‘I did not know if [my] building would collapse. ”

Nemeth escaped with mere bruises on the shoulder – but others were not so happy.

At least 154 people were killed in the blast and 5,000 were injured, according to Lebanese Health Minister Hamad Hassan.
