Another big name New England Patriots player has tested positive for COVID-19.
Tom Palliser of the NFL Network reported Wednesday morning that the Defensive Player of the Year was positively tested in the test phase on Tuesday rather than ruled out, by sources familiar with the situation.
Gilmore underwent additional testing to confirm a positive result.
With the latest positive test, the Patriots have canceled Wednesday’s practice and will hold virtual meetings.
This test marks the third player to be affected by COVID-19 in New England in recent days. Kem Newton tested positive for the novel coronavirus and landed on the Reserve / Covid-19 list last week. Practice-squad defensive lineman Bill Murray was placed on the reserve list on Tuesday.
Gilmore competed in Monday’s game against the Chiefs in Kansas City. After Tuesday’s test round, none of the key players or staff tested positive for Palaisiro, and the team was given a PPE by the player in practice on Wednesday. Practice is allowed under intensive protocols, including mandatory use. Chief Practice Squad QB Jordan Ta’amu, who tested positive last week, is the only positive case in the organization.

After Newton’s positive test, the Patriots-Chiefs game was pushed from Sunday to Monday night to allow further testing. All results came back negative until Monday’s game. Since then, Gilmore has tested positive and Murray has been placed on the reserve list.
The Denver Broncos are set to depart for New England’s 5th Salt Lake of the Week on Sunday.
