New COVID-19 outbreak reported at Yakima Long-Term Care Center has been updated

Health officials are urging people to do as much as possible to prevent the spread of COVID-19 after reports of a new coronavirus outbreak at Yakima’s long-term care center.

The Yakima Health Committee’s Summitview Health Care Center reported 50 cases of COVID-19 involving 27 employees and 23 residents, according to a news release from Yakima Health District. Four deaths have been reported since the outbreak.

The health district’s disease investigation team visited the center on Tuesday. The cases were reported to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, but have not yet been included in the Yakima Health District. The health district said it would take note when the numbers were included in the daily average on its website.

The health district reported 71 new cases on Thursday, excluding care center outbreaks.

Health Officer Dr. Most, if not all, of the COMID-19 cases result from a community transition to long-term living facilities, Teresa Everson said. He said it was time to stop the increase in cases in the Yakima area so that it does not reach out to more vulnerable community members.

“We know from our previous success that if we follow all the recommendations, we will see a reduction in COVID-19 activity.”

The county has reported an average of 75 cases per day in the past seven days. This number has doubled from the average daily calculations in October.

Twenty-three people were admitted to the hospital on Thursday, including two underwriters. The health district said it expects hospital admissions to continue in the coming weeks as the number of cases increases.

Andre Fresco, executive director of the health district, said people should avoid unnecessary contact with non-household members, wear masks, wash their hands frequently and clean surfaces. People who have Covid-19 symptoms should test it immediately or feel like they have come out, he said.

“It is not a single intervention that will ensure that Yakima can reverse this increase in the Kokid-19 case. Every member of that community will do their part to protect our county, ”he said.

Yakima County has 13,988 cases of COVID-19 and 255 deaths since March. A total of 12,424 people have recovered.

The CTO. 26 to Nov. As of 8, there were 162 cases per 100,000 people in the county. The state’s target is less than 25 cases per 100,000 in two weeks.

Across the state, 1,987 new cases and 11 people have been confirmed, according to the statewide health department. The data is as of 11:59 on Wednesday night.
