New COVID-19 cases drop below 500 as evidence, positive percentage drops

MADISON, Wisconsin (WMTV) – The total number of new cases of COVID-19 dropped below the 500 mark on Monday, making it the lowest total since this time last week.

According to the daily tracker of the Department of Health Services, the 494 confirmed cases are more than 270 fewer cases than on Sunday, when 769 positive results. Since the beginning of June, the agency reported fewer new cases on a Monday than during the rest of the week.

However, despite fewer positive tests, the seven-day moving average reached 697 per day over the past week.

The total number of tests recorded fell by nearly 1,000, the DHS reported, but that still meant that the percentage of those total tests that tested positive also fell, from more than 10 percent on Sunday to 7.5 percent.

With the new cases added, there are now 7,447 people currently suffering from COVID-19, one fifth of the 36,942 who tested positive since the outbreak began, while 28,670 people recovered.

No new deaths from coronavirus-related complications were reported Monday.
