Phone charging speeds have gotten pretty good in recent years, but today, Oppo may have revealed what might be the world’s fastest smartphone power brick.
Building on your previous SuperVooc charging technologyOppo’s new 125-watt Flash Charge power adapter promises the ability to recharge a 4,000 mAh phone battery at 41% in just five minutes, or up to 100% in just 13 minutes under ideal conditions. Frankly, that’s a lot more than most people would need, although in those situations where you’re about to go out and realize you forgot to charge your phone, Oppo’s charging technology could be a lifesaver.
However, there are some limitations to the technology. For example, in normal conditions where the phone’s temperature is 40 degrees Celsius (around 104 degrees Fahrenheit) or less, Oppo says that charging from 0 to 100% will take around 20 minutes, which is still extremely fast.
Also, while Oppo says its new 125-watt Flash Charge adapter is backward compatible with older phones with support for Super VOOC and VOOC charging protocols like the Oppo Reno 2Neither VOOC nor Super VOOC are really what you would call industry standards, as that technology is generally only featured on Oppo phones.

To help achieve those super-fast charging speeds, Oppo supports 20-volt charging at 6.25 amps, while also using three charge pumps to deliver an impressive 98% charging efficiency. Meanwhile, to help prevent its 125-watt flash charge from damaging your phone, Oppo takes measures of 10 additional temperature sensors to prevent overheating while employing fuse surge protection measures.
While all of this sounds good in theory, it remains to be seen what kind of impact the 125-watt load will have on the overall health and longevity of a phone’s battery. While the super fast charging speeds are great, if it means your phone’s battery only lasts a year or two before it needs to be replaced, it might not be worth it.
That said, if you’re interested in faster wireless charging, Oppo also unveiled its new 65-watt AirVooc charging pad, which the company says can recharge a phone with a 4,000 mAh battery in just 30 minutes. To reduce the heat generated by the system, Oppo added a semiconductor cooler at the bottom of the platform. And because AirVooc is Qi compatible, it should work with almost all modern wireless charging phones, although it is unclear whether the standard Qi charging phones will get the same maximum charging speeds of 65 watts.
Two super portable chargers round out Oppo’s new range of charging technology: a 110-watt Mini Flash charger and a 50-watt Mini SuperVOOC charger, the latter of which Oppo says is the smallest and thinnest power adapter in its kind. At just 10.5mm thick (about 0.4 inches), the Mini SuperVOOC charger uses gallium nitride components and a new pulse charging technique to deliver an incredibly small and energy efficient charger.
While Oppo has yet to reveal the pricing or availability of its new range of charging equipment, at least a couple of them will likely be available later this year along with a new line of Oppo phones.
