New cases of coronavirus are generally on the decline, analysis shows


New cases of coronavirus in the US are generally down, as the country reports its lowest number of new cases in nearly a week, according to an analysis by the Wall Street Journal.

The U.S. reported fewer than 47,000 new cases on Sunday, the Journal reported, citing data compiled by Johns Hopkins University.

The total number of cases in the U.S. exceeded 5 million on Sunday and the U.S. death toll on Monday morning was 163,077.

The Sunday average for new cases has generally fallen more than two weeks, according to the Journal’s analysis. The newspaper reports that the daily cases of more than 67,000 on July 22 dropped to 53,905 on Saturday.

The seven-day average is also less than the 14-day average since July 26, according to the Journal’s analysis, signaling that the cases count.

The U.S. has reported more cases of coronavirus than other countries, according to data from Johns Hopkins University. Globally, there are more than 19.9 million COVID-19 cases.
