New Blasphemous DLC Releases Next Month, Adds New Game Plus and More

During the Double Fine’s Day of the Devs Developer Showcase, developer The Game Kitchen announced that Blasphemous will be getting a new expansion in August called The Stir of Dawn that adds a ton of stuff. Available for free on Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, the DLC includes a new Game Plus mode, more bosses and enemies, new stories, quality of life improvements and much more.

The Stir of Dawn arrives on August 4 on all platforms. Many of the game’s additions are locked behind the New Game Plus mode called True Calvary. Available to those who finish the main campaign, this mode will allow players to replay the story on a much higher difficulty while retaining all previously unlocked items and abilities. There is a new optional penance system that, after activating one of the three available penances, permanently modifies your Blasphemous game with adjustments to things like damage and health.

You can watch the reveal trailer below.

True Calvary also includes an additional quest line with new bosses, different types of enemies, unique items and rewards, and more. But that’s not all that is available in The Stir of Dawn and not everything that is introduced in this new Blasphemous DLC is locked behind New Game Plus mode.

Elsewhere in the game’s free DLC there are a variety of quality of life improvements. This includes adjustments to the map and fast travel system, updated voice acting and the inclusion of a full voice track in Spanish, new areas and visual improvements, more executions and a new counterattack mechanic, and more.

Blasphemous was originally released in 2019 to largely favorable reviews. We got a score of 7/10 in-game in the GameSpot Blasphemous review, saying, “Although it can be frustrating that your core game never evolves beyond the often-paced note of a hack and jump across different levels, avoiding As it reaches greater heights, I was still impressed with how much Blasphemous stayed close to its haunting dark history. To that end, playing through this submission to the Metroidvania games was a satisfying test to overcome on its own. “
