The Beyond Skyrim team recently unveiled a brand new trailer featuring our wildest views of Black Marsh.
For those unfamiliar with Beyond Skyrim, it’s a collaborative project being developed by a variety of modding teams trying to build continental expansions for Bethesda’s iconic RPG. While the team has worked on Bruma, Morrowind, Elsweyr, and more, the most recent reveal focuses on Black Marsh, home of the Argonians.
As you can see, Black Marsh is black and marshy. It is also the oldest part of Nirn, for anyone interested in lore. The Argonians have been fighting for centuries, and the Kothringi have been doing the same for centuries for them (until Clavicus Vile, the Daedric Prince of Bargains, turned them all into skeletons in exchange for immortality – very tricky).
However, Beyond Skyrim offers players the chance to explore the culturally rich but unfortunately intangible provinces outside of Skyrim. Black Marsh is located in southwest Tamriel, just below Morrowind, and has a large variety of Ayleid ruins and Kothringi structures that we do not really see in other games. There’s also some Argonian bone weapons that look better than literally every set in the base game, which is fun.
There are also many new flora and fauna to explore – there is even a predator named ‘sea dragon’, which looks a bit like a hybrid of wolf / shark, as well as a komodo dragon with magical lightning skills. Black Marsh is pretty wild.
The Beyond Skyrim team is currently about a year in development on its Black Marsh expansion, but is always looking for new writers, artists, and more – you can apply here as a volunteer.
