New $ 9,995 Blackmagic Camera Records 12K Video at 60fps

You are probably wondering why anyone would want to shoot a movie in 12K. The idea here is not so much to do that, but to allow filmmakers to capture the smoothest footage possible in resolutions where people are currently consuming their content. Oversampling images give filmmakers more flexibility when post-production time comes, and the Ursa Mini Pro 12K can capture 8K and 4K images without cropping.

In addition to its impressive sensor, the camera includes features like an interchangeable lens mount and two SD UHS-II slots. Another nifty feature is that the camera encodes the footage using the RAW Blackmagic codec itself, which the company says will allow you to edit any 12K footage using a laptop.

Priced at $ 9,995, the Ursa Mini Pro 12K is out of reach for most of us mere mortals. But compared to cinema cameras from brands like Red and Canon, some of which can cost tens of thousands of dollars, it’s reasonably priced for what it’s a very capable camera.
