Having trouble deciding what to watch on Netflix? Well, now there’s a button for it.
The streamer rolls out a new “Shuffle Play” button on smart TVs provided by the Netflix app, according to our sister website Variation. When pressed, the button will start a random movie or TV series that matches the user’s recommendations or is similar to titles the user has seen in the past. The button can be found below the profile bar in the startup screen, on the home page of a user’s profile or on the TV menu sidebar.
“The purpose of the test is to make it easier for members to find something to watch,” a Netflix spokesman said. Variation, adding that the streamer aims to roll out a permanent “shuffle” feature for all users at some point: “Hope is absolutely something to produce.”
Last year, Netflix tested a “Random Episode” button that allowed users to choose to watch a random episode of their favorite TV shows, instead of having to manually select a specific episode. However, the button was only available for Android users, and is still not unrolled for all Netflix users.
