Netflix Pic Sets Fall Release Date – Deadline

Netflix has set a broadcast date of October 16 for Aaron Sorkin’s The trial of the Chicago 7, his $ 56 million pickup from Paramount, in what appears to be his first contenders for the 2020-21 award season.

Paramount, which first had the film, was considering a fall platform launch, initially with a limited debut on September 25, then an expansion on October 9 and a full launch on October 16, hence the date of Netflix’s launch continues with what was originally planned for before this year’s presidential election in the United States.

Directed and written by Oscar and Emmy winner Sorkin, the photo follows protest organizers Abbie Hoffman, Jerry Rubin, Tom Hayden and Bobby Seale at the 1968 Democratic National Convention, which went from a peaceful protest to a violent clash with the police and the National Guard. All four were charged with conspiracy to incite a revolt, and the trial that followed was one of the most notorious in United States history.

Due to the exhibition closing during COVID-19, Paramount sold the feature to Netflix.

The cast includes Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Sacha Baron Cohen, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Michael Keaton, Frank Langella, John Carroll Lynch, Eddie Redmayne, Mark Rylance, Alex Sharp, Jeremy Strong, Noah Robbins, Danny Flahery, Ben Skenkman, Kelvin Harrison Jr., Caitlin Fitzgerald, Alice Kremelberg, John Doman, JC MacKenzie, Damien Young, Wayne Duvall, and CJ Wilson.

As previously reported, Cross Creek covered previous financial commitments in the movie. CAA Media Finance negotiated the deal.

Marc Platt, Stuart Besser, Matt Jackson and Tyler Thompson are producers. Executive producers are Laurie MacDonald, Walter Parkes, Marc Butan, Anthony Katagas, James Rodenhouse, Shivani Rawat, Kristie Macosko Krieger and Nia Vazirani.
