After two seasons, Netflix has pulled the plug on the much-hyped cyberpunk series Altered Carbon and an animated film, as revealed in an exclusive Deadline report.
According to the report, it is believed that the abolition of the show “is not Covid-related, but stems from the standard viewing process of the streamer versus cost renewal.”
In other words, the number of viewers that the second season of the show managed to retain does not justify the cost of producing a third season in the eyes of Netflix.
What went wrong?
Despite a stellar first season, Altered Carbon’s second season was not as well received by viewers, with many fans lamenting the show’s reduced budget and changes in cast and showrunner as the reasons for its fall from grace.
Recorded 30 years after the conclusion of the first season, Altered Carbon: Season 2 saw actor Anthony Mackie (The Falcon and the Winter Soldier) replace Joel Kinnaman (The Suicide Squad) as the main character Takeshi Kovacs.
While the casting shake-up perfectly matched the futuristic body-changing theme of the show, the change of tone it brought, the second season of the show probably made for a completely different series in the eyes of fans .
