Nemanja Matic puts Manchester United’s draw against Southampton in perspective

Nemanja Matic urged Manchester United to keep their heads up and reiterated that the Champions League qualification remains in their hands after a draw with Southampton.

United entered Monday night’s clash with Ralph Hasenhuttl’s team knowing that a victory would lift them to third place in the Premier League ahead of Chelsea and Leicester.

However, United remains in fifth place with three games to go this season after a late attack by Michael Obafemi secured a deserved point for Southampton.

The mood blew around Old Trafford after the late equalization goal, but Matic was quick to point out that United will qualify for the Champions League if they win the remaining Premier League games.

“It is very frustrating for us, we had some opportunities to kill the game, but we did not use it,” he told MUTV.

“I don’t think we have allowed them to create good opportunities. We have to keep our heads up, three games for Thursday, so if we win our last three games, we are in the Champions League, so we have to stay positive and keep working as we did. It’s in our hands “.

“Three months ago it was out of our hands. Everything we had to play and wait for Chelsea and Leicester to drop points they made. Now we are one point away from Chelsea and it is in our hands.”

“Game by game we think of Crystal Palace, if we do our work there as we normally do. I am not afraid of not playing the Champions League next season.”
