Negative test results return after positive antigen tests

MANCHESTER, Vt. (WCAX) – More negative test results are coming back after teams with the Vermont Department of Health evaluate people linked to what seemed like a surge in Manchester.

WCAX first recounted it a week ago, where 63 people tested positive through an antigen test conducted at Manchester Medical Center.

Those kinds of tests are attractive because of the rapid results, but health department experts were skeptical of those tests, saying they may not be as accurate in detecting the virus in people who don’t show symptoms.

We now know that 33 of the 63 people with a positive antigen test have turned negative after a COVID PCR test.

Two cases were confirmed positive.

The health department says it has been in contact with all but 7 of those 63 people. We are told that most have no symptoms.

PCR tests were also offered in Manchester and Londonderry last week. All 405 tests were negative.
