Nebraska leadership affirms loyalty to Big Ten

LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) – With the Big Ten Conference announcing the postponement of fallsport and Scott Frost saying earlier this week the team would look for other opportunities to play football in the fall, many have questioned what it can do mean about the future of Nebraska in the Big Ten conference.

Thursday morning, University of Nebraska – Lincoln Chancellor Ronnie Green and University of Nebraska System President Ted Carter tweeted a statement confirming Nebraska’s loyalty to the Big Ten.

“The University of Nebraska-Lincoln is a full-fledged member of the Big Ten Conference. It is an unusual athletic and academic alliance. We have the biggest fans in university athletics. This has been a difficult and disappointing week for the Husker family. We are all looking forward to the day we can rejoice in our student-athletes, on the field and in the arena. ”

On Monday before the Big Ten official announcement, head coach Scott Frost said the Huskers were looking for games somewhere other than the conference canceling the fall sports season. The Big Ten Conference responded by saying Nebraska would not be able to play this fall and remain a member of the conference.

“I think our university does its duty to play football in every way we can, regardless of what anyone else does,” Frost said on Monday. He added that the Huskers are “ready to look for other options.”
