NCISAA plans to resume sports competition under a delayed schedule


– The North Carolina Independent Schools Athletic Association, which governs high school sports for many private schools in North Carolina, plans to resume fall sports activities in August on a delayed schedule.

On Monday afternoon, the association announced that fall practices would be delayed until August 10 for low and moderate risk sports such as cross country, women’s golf, tennis, field hockey, soccer and volleyball. . Practice games would begin on August 24 for these sports, and competitions would begin on August 31.

Soccer, a high-risk sport, will not begin until at least September 4.

All of these dates are subject to change, according to the NCISAA. The dates are up to Governor Roy Cooper to move the state into Phase 3 of his reopening plan.

Last week, the North Carolina High School Athletic Association, which governs high school sports for the state public schools, announced that it would not resume fall sports practices until at least Sept. 1.
