The NCAA has voted to allow athletes to put social justice statements on their shirts this coming season … giving all students the opportunity to express their views.
The vote came last week … and follows the example of MLB, NFL, NBA, WNBA and more leagues in wearing jerseys to promote equality as they return to competition.
The organization’s rules of the game supervisory panel determined that each student-athlete will be able to wear sports patches on the front and messages on the back of their uniforms “to express their support and express their opinions.”
Of course, the NBA is allowing players to use messages like “Black Lives Matter” and “Equality” when the season restarts on Thursday … and WNBA players are using Breonna TaylorThe name on their shirts.
The NFL also announced that it will feature the names of victims of police brutality in helmets for the 2020 season.
Shaquille O’Nealson of Shareef – who plays for the LSU basketball team – showed his support for the NCAA decision … saying: “GOOD! I was hoping they would leave us.”
