“Today” co-host Savannah Guthrie will undergo cataract surgery on her right eye Monday to tackle a blurry spot after her 3-year-old son accidentally hit her with a toy train last fall.
“It’s been a long time, I’m super excited,” the NBC presenter told viewers on Monday morning. “I feel like it’s Christmas morning because if they remove this waterfall, I will really be able to see, and I have had a hard time seeing.”
Guthrie was supposed to undergo surgery earlier this year, but it had to be postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic. She told Ellen DeGeneres in an interview last month that her vision has been blurred for months.
“It is a little distorted and then it has something wavy, and now I have this cataract, which is a big blur,” Guthrie told the talk show host on June 17. “Once that blur is removed, I think it will be much better.”
“It’s kind of funny, sort of. I see, but I see big blurry spots, “he added.
Guthrie was named presenter of “Today” in 2012, replacing Ann Curry.
