Paul Pierce has had some misinterpretations in the past for which he has been properly roasted, along with some not-so-good predictions.
But I’ve seen some NBA fans question it for an opinion that is actually completely valid.
Pierce appeared on a recent episode of ESPN The jump And he had this to say about his expectations for Dallas Mavericks star Luka Doncic, who was having a historically surprising season before the hiatus due to the coronavirus.
“I expect special things from him,” he said. “You are talking about a boy who made one of the biggest jumps in recent memory of a Rookie of the Year to an MVP caliber player. He has won every European championship you can think of, every European MVP you can think of. So I expect special things from this boy. Clearly, he is special. He is a talent. To me today he is the most talented player in the NBA. The lights are never too bright for him.
Notice: said the most talented, not the best. We all know that the best thing in conversation is Giannis Antetokounmpo and LeBron James. As far as the talent goes? This is a boy who has just turned 21 and is close to averaging a triple double (at 28.7 ppg!) In just his second NBA season, which means he could take another jump or two before his prime.
However, a lot of people mistook his statement for declaring Doncic the best (although we may return to that conversation in a few years):
It’s not the hot shot you think it is. Trust me.
