If you’re still behind the jets from the 2019-20 NBA season, you’re not alone. Everyone’s watch is broken. It’s December and we’re just starting training camp as we prepare for the 72-game sprint to make sure the normal NBA calendar resumes next year.
That said, some things never change: the NBA is ripe with drama (Where will James Harden already trade?), And CBS Sports is here for you with an annual list of the top 100 players for the 2020-21 season. It is a gift that keeps on giving.
Some things to keep in mind: This list presents the average of each of our eight staff writers in the individual rankings. It’s also a projection for next season, i.e. where a player ranks is based on our best collective predictions about future performances, although, clearly, past performances carry a heavy weight in this speculation.
Example: Now let me tell you that I believe our crew made a mistake in including Andrew Wiggins in the top 100. Personally, I ranked it 49th, and I think those who didn’t vote within the top 100 would also put more weight on past performance. His situation has changed, and I believe that change will be significantly reflected in his future performance.
One note you won’t see Clay Thompson’s name.
However, you’ll see Kevin Durant’s name, as he didn’t need to play NBA games last season. Again, this is a projection of the top 100 players this season. Rookies were characters, though I’ll tell you plainly that none of them made the cut.
And that, I believe, almost covers it. It is not rocket science. That’s a list. So let’s think about it. Let the argument begin.
