With ongoing protests in the United States of America, athletes across the country have been using their platforms to raise awareness of important social causes. The NBA is slated to return next week, and the league has made great strides to give its athletes an even bigger voice. For example, they may wear social justice messages on the back of their shirts. Some of these messages include “Black Lives Matter”, “Justice”, “Education Reform” and many more.

According to NBA journalist Brad Turner, it appears that several other teams are seeking alternative forms of protest. For example, the Lakers, Bucks, Raptors, Jazz, Celtics, Nuggets, Heat and Clipper are staying at the same hotel, which led to a great reunion. During this meeting, the players decided that they would be on their knees during the National Anthem when the season resumes on July 30 and 31.

For now, it seems like kneeling will only take place during the first few games, though it’s certainly subject to change. During the first night of MLB action, we saw numerous players kneeling by the anthem, much to the chagrin of conservative fans on Twitter. With these reactions in mind, it will be interesting to see how the NBA strategy will unfold.
